Late last month, the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns were talking about a trade that would have landed left tackle Kevin Shaffer in East Rutherford, but a deal was never reached. Things seemed dead but apparently there is still a slight possibility that the Giants make one last run for Shaffer. The Giants, who are in desperate need of a left tackle, currently have David Diehl slated to fill that spot but would like to move him back to guard. Another option is second year player Guy Whimper, who has earned only mixed reviews.
It was also reported by Bob Glober of Newsday (via ESPN video) that Shaffer wants out of Cleveland. It's inevitable that his spot will be taken by first-round draft choice Joe Thomas and that is clearly not sitting well with him.
Shaffer has six years remaining on his seven-year, $36 million deal.
