The FanHouse's Adam Rank mentioned last week that rumors had NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock in the running for the Raiders personnel director job. Well, Mayock sets the record straight in today's Philadelphia Daily News:
"Al Davis had expressed an interest in me a year ago... At that point, I told him the timing was not good for me and kind of backed out of it early. So I don't know what [the job] could have been or couldn't have been. Why it's surfacing now I have no idea."
So there you have it: yes, Mayock was up for the job, but it was last year. This is good news for people who enjoy Mayock on the NFL Network (in my mind he's the best draft nerd on the teevees) and probably good news for Mayock too. Instead of potentially sullying his name by taking one of the toughest jobs in professional sports, he'll keep his cushy television gig.

With Mayock out of the picture, maybe Mel Kiper really does have a legit shot. For strictly comedic reasons, I want to see Adam Schefter get the job.
