Junior Seau announced his retirement last year, signing one of those silly one-day contracts with the Chargers after he had been told he was washed up.

But that only lasted a day until the Patriots offered him a roster spot. This off-season, he won't make another hasty announcement: The San Diego Union-Tribune has reported that Seau will return to the Patriots in 2007.

I don't know why I think some players hang on too long while I enjoy watching other players stay on the field well past their prime, but Seau is a guy I'm glad to see hanging on as long as he possibly can. He's nowhere near the player he was in the '90s, but he's still good enough to contribute, and that's good enough for me.

The one issue Seau delaying his retirement brings up is that it also delays by a year his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Seau will definitely get into the Hall of Fame the first year he's eligible. If he plays in 2007 he'll be eligible in 2013, possibly alongside Brett Favre. I'd enjoy that ceremony.
