The Texans OTA's began yesterday, and due to the wonders of TexansTV, fans were able to see new Texans quarterback, Matt Schaub for the first time along with interviews with various players. Local sports talk reports suggest that he, and backup Sage Rosenfels looked really sharp. But Schaub was wearing the number....8. You know, THAT number. The one The Quarterback Who Shall Not Be Named wore.
For some fans, seeing the new quarterback in the old quarterback's number causes painful flashbacks. As a poster noted on the TexansTalk.com message board:
"I'm know I am being over dramatic..., but to me that number represents everything that was wrong with this franchise in it's first 5 years of existence. When I see that number I think David Carr, and Dom Capers, and Charlie Casserly, and sacks, and losses, and all other kinds of ugly images.I don't want to think about any of that. I want a clean slate. The number 7, or heck, and other number in the universe besides 8 would be cool by me. I just really don't want to see a Texans jersey 8 again as long as I live."Well, they are selling them #8 jerseys at Reliant, so it is pretty unlikely that Schaub would go back to his college number 7, or any other number. What say you about this? This has been a topic of message boards and Houston sports talk. Is a number just a number, or does seeing your new quarterback wearing #8 cause you intestinal issues?
