Redskins running back Clinton Portis probably gives the most entertaining interviews of any player in NFL history. I mean, seriously: This is a guy who shows up to press conferences wearing ridiculous costumes. You've got to love that.

But right now, the Redskins' PR department must be cringing at the mere thought of Portis in front of a microphone. Last week Portis said Falcons quarterback Michael Vick did nothing wrong even if allegations that he organized a dog fighting ring are true. Then Portis, via the Redskins' web site, issued a statement saying he doesn't condone dog fighting.

Tonight Portis appeared on NFL Network to expand on his thoughts about dog fighting. Although he did reiterate that he wasn't condoning dog fighting, he added, "I think there's bigger issues in the world and in life than what Michael Vick's doing on his own property," and then said, "Hunting is legal."

Here's the thing Portis needs to understand: He might not be condoning dog fighting, but he is minimizing the severity of it. The wisest course of action now would be simply to stop talking about Vick all together. Vick is a big target right now, and Portis should stop putting himself in the line of fire.
