The NFL's own security arm has offered to assist law-enforcement authorities investigating one of its employees, Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports in its Friday edition that NFL security personnel showed up unannounced in Surry County, Virginia, to offer their help. That can't be good news for Vick, and it shows that the league is taking this matter very seriously, even as the prosecutor in Surry County, Gerald Poindexter, waffles. Local investigators have not interviewed Vick -- and Vick has the right to refuse to talk to them -- but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has talked to Vick, and it's possible that the NFL is giving information from that discussion to the local law enforcement.
The Journal-Constitution also reported that "Poindexter emphasized that the investigation is far from over," and that dog fighting investigations often go on for several months before charges are filed. That means this case could be hanging over Vick's head when the regular season starts in September.
