OK, I lied. This is not the first of many Todd Helton trade rumors -- there were several during the off-season that had Helton potentially going to Boston or Anaheim -- but this might be the first concrete in-season rumor. Boston might still be a possibility, but it looks like the Angels have their eyes set on Garrett Atkins more so than Helton. The Yankees however, appear to be interested in the Rockies first baseman.Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters this week that although trades are always possible, nothing is warm right now. Still, multiple scouts said Wednesday the Yankees are interested in Rockies first baseman Todd Helton and closer Brian Fuentes, though nothing is brewing. The fact that the Rockies are struggling means that there is a chance they would want to unload Helton's lofty salary. Trading Brian Fuentes wouldn't make much sense, but getting rid of Helton's contract seems likely. I guess with the struggles of Jason Giambi, the Yankees could have a use for Helton. If the Rockies don't rebound, many teams will be calling to see if they want to unload salaries. Helton has rebounded nicely this season. He ranks second in the big leagues in on-base percentage and first with 21 multihit games.
