Former Bengal A.J. Nicholson Jailed in Florida
Nicholson, the Bengals' 2006 sixth-round draft pick, was already on probation in Florida for breaking into the apartment of a Florida State teammate. One of the conditions of his parole in that case was that he not get arrested, and he was arrested last week when his girlfriend called the police and said he hit her. The girlfriend now says she "exaggerated" to the police and that he didn't actually hit her.
It's highly unlikely that Nicholson will ever play in the NFL again, as he was nothing more than a marginal player, and marginal players who get in repeated trouble with the law just aren't worth the hassle. It does raise the question, though, what the Bengals were thinking when they drafted him in the first place. Cincinnati had already acquired a reputation as the league's outlaw team even before adding Nicholson to the roster, and his presence just made things worse. If Marvin Lewis's job is in jeopardy, personnel moves like drafting Nicholson are the reason.
