Saturday night's UFC 71 event might have been the most profitable night in the history of mixed martial arts, but Chuck Liddell and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson didn't make anything close to the kind of money that top boxers like Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather make for big fights.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Liddell made $500,000 for Saturday night's fight, while Jackson made $450,000. With UFC's pay structure, that means Liddell would have made $1 million for winning, while Jackson would have made $225,000 if he had lost.

Although UFCJunkie notes that both fighters will make more when bonuses, sponsorships and a cut of the pay-per-view revenue are factored in, they're still a far cry from the eight-figure paydays that De La Hoya, Mayweather and other top boxers can make. So while UFC is making some major gains on boxing, the fighters themselves are far behind financially.
