Dave Gladow of NFL.com notes that the Chargers are in a great position after last season's disappointing playoff performance. The past three Super Bowl winners (Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and New England) had all previously battled back from disappointing playoff defeats to win the following season when the pressure was off. And if the Chargers were to follow that trend, they would be the Super Bowl champions. That's a great theory, except for one possible detail: Norv Turner is the Chargers coach.
As much as you would like to believe in the Chargers, how all of the tea-leaves are saying "Chargers Super Bowl," the reality of Norv Turner brings it crashing down. If any trend seems to fit here it would be that of Barry Switzer in his first season as Cowboys coach when he was out-coached by George Seiffert of all people.
No, anybody who believes the Chargers are going to win the Super Bowl are as likely to be disappointed as any of the knuckle-draggers who plunked down their hard-earned money to watch that UFC "fight" on Saturday night.
