A rumor emanating for the Seattle Times postulates that the reason behind Lenny Wilkens' super slow SuperSonics coaching search could be that Wilkens himself wants the job.The Sonics fired head coach Bob Hill and GM Rick Sund back in April, a few days after Seattle finished its terrible 30-52 season. Wilkens, who was serving as a consultant to the franchise, was named the team's president shortly thereafter. Since then, the team has moved slowly to resolve... well, anything.
Wilkens makes some sense for Seattle, in all honesty. He has won a title in the Emerald City, and he does have 1,332 career victories. At age 70, you don't expect him to tie up the job too long, which means the franchise can find a long-term leader once it figures out what the hell it's doing. And in the mean time the guy knows what he's doing, even if he hasn't been considered elite in two decades.
Kevin Durant oglers would certainly like a flashier offensive hire here, but Wilkens can do the job.
