Reports that the Indianapolis Colts moved defensive tackle Corey Simon off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list have been greatly exaggerated, and it's looking more and more like the former Philadelphia Eagle is done in Indianapolis. The Colts signed Simon to a 5-year, $30 million deal after the Eagles released him in 2005, but he didn't have much of an impact in his first season with the Colts, and he missed the entire 2006 season with knee problems.
Simon's lack of success demonstrates why Colts GM Bill Polian prefers to build his team through the draft instead of free agency. Simon is a big money signing who has proven to be a bust, and as lots of former Colts have left the club via free agency this offseason, Polian has drafted wisely over the last few years to fill holes in the lineup. Whether those picks can address the holes at linebacker and cornerback remain to be seen. The only thing for certain, though, is that Simon won't be filling the middle of the line the way the Colts had hoped. Is his career over as well?
