"Seriously. Cardboard box."
That was Sheldon Brown's response to what it felt like leveling Saints runningback Reggie Bush in the playoffs last season. A cardboard box is certainly not among the first 48 things I'd think Reggie Bush would feel like hitting. We posted the image here at FanHouse minutes after it happened last January and this week the hit will grace the cover of Sports Illustrated appearing in a feature titled "Big Hits."
My favorite part is when the author asks one of the leagues best linebackers about the hit.
The play resonated throughout the league: Watching it on TV a thousand miles away in Chicago, Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher rose in appreciation. "Those are the ones you dream about," he'd say later. The New Orleans crowd, frenzied only seconds before, fell silent. It was one of the most amazing clock cleanings I've ever seen. I went so far as to make the image my background on my laptop.
To his credit, Reggie Bush bounced right back in that playoff game and helped end the Eagles season. Let's hope Sheldon Brown can do it again in 2008 -- crush Reggie Bush that is, not end the Eagles season.
