Once upon a time, Corey Simon was a strong defensive tackle whom Indianapolis brought in as a free agent to strengthen their run defense. That didn't work out so well, though, and it appears Simon's time in Naptown is coming to an abrupt end.

Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday night that he expected to release former Pro Bowl tackle Corey Simon within the next few days, ending months of speculation concerning Simon's future with the Super Bowl champions.

Simon did not pass his physical over the weekend. He was expected to report to camp on time Sunday but was never seen at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

It was rare for GM Bill Polian to sign a high profile free agent like Simon. Given how much time Simon spent on the PUP list, we may not see the Colts make a move like that again any time soon. This team has done much better when it filled positions through the draft.
