To be perfectly honest, Gary Sheffield and David Wells have a lot in common. Both are aging talents, both have bounced around in their careers, both have played for the Yankees ... and both have a unique and special way with words. Both have a tendency to go over the top, and both seem to genuinely hate Bud Selig. Wells did nothing to dissuade that impression with his response to a $5,000 fine for his comments earlier in the year about Dar Kommissar:
"What happened to our First Amendment, freedom of speech?" Wells said before the Padres played Barry Bonds.Shine on, David. Shine on you crazy, overweight diamond.Wells taped the two-page letter from Selig to the wall near his locker.
"I just think it's stupid," Wells said. "What Bud Selig has now sent me, I think, is absolutely crazy. He's here in town. I wish he would come down and talk to me about this. But obviously he's way too busy for me. He ain't busy. He's got five minutes out of his time, 10 minutes. He's not the president. He kind of acts like it, though."
