Take two on this post. I agree with those of you who said I misread that New York Post quote. But via True Hoop, here's a passage from the Toronto Star explaining how it is that Stern will "hang": If the NBA crumbles further on Stern's watch, it's not difficult to see him leaving in disgrace, with the owners turning to someone like Bill Bradley to restore public confidence. Stern's a smart guy, but nothing might save him if he turns out to have called this one so blatantly wrong.This "further crumbling" refers, of course, to the disaster that would result if a bunch of refs got fired for gambling--something the league has now admitted. How weird would it be if Tim Donaghy's corruption were contained, but a few nights of blackjack were what brought down the NBA?
