SEC Recruiting Not Quite as Shiny in August

Rivals has helpfully compiled a list of the various nonqualifiers who signed with schools in February but will not be on campus this fall. A count by conference:
  • SEC: 45
  • Big 12: 23
  • Pac 10: 21
  • ACC: 18
  • Big East: 14
  • Big Ten: 4
Remember this next February when the SEC signs half of the top 25 classes: these are fictional constructs that will never hit campus. Schools hardest hit are Auburn, who lost a whopping 10 of 30 recruits including four four-stars, South Carolina (seven recruits), and Tennessee (five). Oregon also took a hit, losing only three recruits but two of them were four-star defensive tackles the Ducks really needed after letting the nation run all over them last year. The biggest recruit not to make it was North Carolina five star Dwight Jones.

Meanwhile, The Pac 10's "21" is really a preposterous 16 for Oregon State and five between the other nine schools combined, and the weird thing is that 13 of the 16 Oregon State non-enrollees qualified but are planning to grayshirt. The Beavers have apparently switched directions from all-JUCO-all-the-time to getting crappy high school kids but making them old and stuff. Wonder if it will work.
