Australian punter Saverio Rocca has made it in the NFL. Although Rocca's place on the Eagles' roster won't become official until tomorrow, Dirk Johnson, the Eagles' incumbent punter, comfirmed today that he got cut, meaning the punting job belongs to Rocca.
Rocca had an outstanding preseason, and his presence is yet another signal that the best source of punting talent for American football might be Australia, a country whose version of football requires players to have both powerful kicking legs and the skill required for hang time and directional kicking.
The biggest question for Rocca is whether he'll be able to hold on field goals and extra points. Although most teams use their punter as the holder, Australian punter Mat McBriar struggled as a holder for the Cowboys, which is why Tony Romo became the holder in Dallas. How did that work out?
