Tony Stewart's crew experienced what no Chase crew wants to go through ... NASCAR inspectors surrounding the car, and officials drifting over one by one after it's determined that the left front fender is too low.For a few frightening minutes, all the smiles that came with a third-place finish at New Hampshire had disappeared off the faces of Tony Stewart's No. 20 teammates. After further inspection--and much stress--the car was indeed determined to be too low, but NASCAR ruled that it was a result of race damage.
After rolling the car into the post-race inspection bay in the New Hampshire International Speedway garage, the crew was suddenly faced with some sobering news: The left front fender was too low, and the evidence was right there for all to see. Their faces turned to stone.
Phew. Dodged a bullet there. No team in the Chase can afford to have a COT violation, the resulting penalty of which would kill their Chase hopes.
