Rev. Al Sharpton's hair head is again poking into the sports world. Last time, he led the outrage against Don Imus for frightful comments made about the Rutgers women's basketball team. Now Sharpton has said Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, fresh off an unsuccessful trial defense in an $11.6 million sexual harassment lawsuit, needs to apologize to all women for his (taped) comments it's alright for a black man to call black women 'bitches.'Sharpton's rules of engagement on the b-word are somewhat more acceptable than Zeke's.
"It is inexcusable for any man of any race to call black women or any women 'bitch.' "Well played, Al. The Reverend says he'll organize picket lines at Madison Square Garden if Thomas doesn't apologize. It falls a bit short of calling for Zeke's job (as Sharpton did with Imus) and I can't imagine many folks who are paying thousands of dollars a year on Knicks tickets are going to be able to justify sitting some games out for something as vague as an "apology to all women." But Sharpton clearly has pull with some folks. Thomas should apologize like yesterday just to avoid further consequences.
