It's time for Joe Theismann to just accept that he and Tony Kornheiser weren't a good match, that ESPN decided to replace one of them in its Monday Night Football booth, and that ESPN decided it was easier to find a replacement for Theismann than for Kornheiser. It really is that simple, but Theismann continues to act as though dumping him and keeping Kornheiser is an affront to the game of football. Theismann told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald (via the great Sports Media Blog) that ESPN is making Ron Jaworski into Kornheiser's sidekick:
"Ron is a terrific football guy but he happens to work on Tony's show. It has become a three-hour Tony Kornheiser show. When I was let go, they explained they wanted more of an issue show and less about football. They've accomplished that.''
Theismann is wrong. It was more of the Kornheiser show last year, when he and Theismann always tried to one-up each other, than it is this year, when Kornheiser and Jaworski play off each other. Theismann says he wants to get back into broadcasting. He really ought to stop complaining.
