Things I'll never understand: How Mike Vrabel continues to get open in the end zone. On the Patriots' third drive of the game, a 2nd and goal from the Redskins' two-yard line, quarterback Tom Brady somehow manages to find linebacker-eligible Vrabel for a touchdown. Shocking, really. New England goes up 14-0 midway through the second quarter.
That's 10 for 10 for Vrabel -- 10 career receptions, 10 touchdown passes. I'm no defensive coordinator, but maybe somebody should put a body on that guy. I mean, after the 9th touchdown, you'd think it would be obvious that when he's in the game as a "tight end," he's getting the ball. Everybody except whoever is playing the Patriots, I guess.
In related news, Brady tossed his 28th touchdown pass of the season ... which ties his previous season high, set in 2004 and 2002. And it's Week 8. Earlier in the year, I was half-kidding when I said Brady would break Peyton Manning's single-season TD mark of 49 sometime around Christmas. I'd like to move that up to Thanksgiving. Since, you know, head coach Bill Belichick's team will clinch the division right around that time, and he'll have to start resting the starters.
