Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early this morning. He was 24.
Taylor died a day after he was shot by an armed intruder in his home. A bullet hit his femoral artery, and he lost massive amounts of blood.
Miami-Dade Police are investigating the attack, which was the second break-in at Taylor's home in the last eight days, as a burglary. Taylor's girlfriend called 911 at about 1:45 a.m. Monday and he was airlifted to the hospital.
Taylor was a star at the University of Miami and the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft. He was one of the NFL's hardest hitters, and a Pro Bowler after the 2006 season. He is currently tied for the NFC lead with five interceptions.
Taylor was at his home in Florida, rather than with the team, because he suffered a knee injury that kept him out for the last two weeks.
