Troy PercivalWe learned a couple of days ago that Troy Percival was close to reuniting with Joe Maddon, who was on the coaching staff in Anaheim back during Percival's prime, in Tampa Bay. While it's still not official, it looks like he is in fact going to sign a two-year deal worth $8 million, plus two million more in potential incentives -- but what I really found interesting was this little nugget from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal:
The Yankees were willing to pay Percival a higher salary, sources say, but they wanted him as a set-up man for closer Mariano Rivera.
Think about that. Percival is 38 years old, and even if this isn't his last contract, it's almost certainly his last significant one. A lot of guys would have seen this as one last opportunity to get as much money as possible before having the game pass him by, but Percival actually based his decision not on finances but rather the chance to do what he loves: close games.

Granted, Percival is still getting a nice payday out of it, but it's are you see players willingly leave money on the table these days, especially this late in their career. Count me among those who will be rooting for Percival this spring.
