Why We Care: Not that long ago, the Titans were considered to be among the second tier of AFC playoff teams, now they're just hoping to stay alive in the playoff race. With the Browns and Jaguars quickly pulling away, a loss would help continue the Titans slow spiral to mediocrity. A win would equal the second-most wins in Texans history, and would give Houston a chance to finish the season at .500 or better for the first time in team history.
When the Titans have the ball: Vince Young's reputation as a gritty, gutty quarterback who wins games with less than gaudy stats has taken a big hit as the Titans lose game after game. Interestingly Young is actually playing some of his best football of the season has come during Tennessee's three-game losing streak. Young's biggest problem has been his difficulty taking care of the ball--he has five interceptions and a fumble in the past three games. The Titans running game has also disappeared, as Lendale White has proven to be the plodding three yard a carry runner that was feared before the season began. The Texans defense has struggled against good passing attacks, but there's a question of whether the Titans can exploit that weakness.
When the Texans have the ball: Without Albert Haynesworth, this would be a bad matchup for the Titans. But Haynesworth should be back this week to fix a defense that has fallen apart without him. Haynesworth demands constant double teams, which made the rest of the Titans line tough. Without him, the pass rush and the ability to shut down running games disappeared. Ron Dayne hasn't been bad as Ahman Green's fill-in, but it's hard to see him finding many holes against a Haynesworth-led front four. Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub should be able to find more holes against the Titans pass defense, whose play-it-safe approach hasn't worked as well in recent weeks.
The Edge: Without Haynesworth, the Titans' tailspin would likely continue, but he's good enough to turn this team around by himself. If he can play at 100 percent, the Titans should halt their slide.
