During an interview with Bob Costas on HBO's Costas Now, Colts coach Tony Dungy seemed taken aback when asked what he would do if he had an openly gay player on his team. After a pause in which Dungy smiled and looked as though he wanted to choose his words carrefully, Dungy said, "I'm sure I would talk to him about my views on it, what the Bible says about it."
Dungy did add, however, that he would show a gay player respect, and when Costas asked him, point blank, "And if he's a good football player he'd be on the Colts?" Dungy answered, "He would be, yes."
Dungy means well with that last part, but overall his answer was the wrong answer: It's not a boss's place to tell a gay employee what the Bible says about homosexuality.
