Rams at Bengals: They Can't All Be Winners!

To get you ready for week 14, FanHouse is previewing all 16 NFL games. Here is your Rams-Bengals preview.

2007 Records:

St Louis Rams: 3-9 (4th in NFC West)
Cincinnati Bengals: 4-8 (t-3rd in AFC North)

Last Week:

Rams 28, Falcons 10
Steelers 24, Bengals 10

Why We Care: In a weird way, the Rams are scorching hot. After losing their first 8 games of the season, St. Louis has won three of their last four. Also, this is only the 11th meeting between these two franchises ... with the last Bengals win way back in 1993. Both these teams have had down seasons, but at least one of us thought the Rams could have been in the Super Bowl.

When the Rams have the ball: The Rams run offense has gotten much better of late due, obviously, to the improved health of Steven Jackson. That will be key in a game where weather will be a factor. They'll want to run it since Marc Bulger is out and Brock Berlin is in at quaterback. That's not to say that St. Louis won't pass. The Bengals secondary doesn't match up well with Torry Holt and Issac Bruce.

When the Bengals have the ball: Who knows? One week after Carson Palmer completed 32-of-38 passes ... he put up a stinker in Pittsburgh (just 17-of-44 and a QB rating of 38.6). This could be a game where he gets out of a funk. The Rams aren't that great at pressuring the quarterback and letting him sit back will mean he will pick you apart. It will be interesting to see if or how often the Rams blitz since there is little respect for Cincy's rush offense.

The Edge: I live in Cincinnati now (the cold sucks!) and it has either rained or snowed each day over the past week and a half. While the field won't be as bad as Pittsburgh's, the same storms have been hitting both places. This one could be a mudder. That gives the edge to a Rams team that wants to move the ball on the ground ,,, and a Bengals team that's bad at stopping it.
