Could Matt Moore Finally Get His First Start?

Looks like Old Man Vinny's sciatica is acting up again. He's missed practice for the last three days, and with the team having zero confidence in Mister Mittens, it looks like Matt Moore, the rookie from Oregon State, will get his opportunity to start. Unless he works miracles in this game, this start will be little more than his preparation for a United Football League career.

Moore would be the Panthers' fourth starting QB this season. It's worth noting that only four five NFL teams that have started more than one quarterback all season currently have winning records -- the Jaguars, the Buccaneers, the Browns, the Vikings and the Bills. The Browns are only on this list because Derek Anderson didn't start their season opener.

If anything, this emphasizes the importance of having a good backup QB. Carolina GM Marty Hurney thought it had addressed the backup situation when he cut Chris Weinke and signed David Carr. Silly Marty.

Here's the bigger question, though -- if Mark Cuban and his buddies get the UFL off the ground, how much more would that dilute the quarterback pool in the NFL? And if starters get hurt, how bad will the next crop of backups be?
