Every year around this time, it's the same thing for the Arizona Cardinals. The players get together and discuss how bright the future of the organization looks, while fans gather to talk about how next year will be "the year."Unfortunately, nothing ever changes. Next year comes and history just repeats itself. The team shows glimpses of breaking out, but they fall back into their hole; fans get excited, only to be letdown. Then it's on to the very same conversations listed above.
"We're closer than I've ever been in my career here," defensive end Darnell Dockett said. "That doesn't make it easier."Raise your hand if you've heard that before.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing the progress Arizona has made. The Cardinals have shown strides this year, but when the smoke cleared, it's the same old team that has had a losing record in 18 of their last 19 season -- a team that is in danger of another losing record this year.
Something drastic has go to change. The players deserve better, the organization deserves better and most importantly, the fans deserve better. Next year has to be the year.
