To get you ready for Week 16, FanHouse is previewing all 16 NFL games. Here is your Redskins/Vikings preview.2007 Records:
Minnesota Vikings: 8-6 (2nd in NFC North)
Washington Redskins: 7-7 (3rd in NFC East)
Last Week:
Vikings 20, Bears 13
Redskins 22, Giants 10
Why We Care: Most of the playoff pairings may already be set, but the Vikings and Redskins are battling for the final NFC playoff spot. Minnesota has the inside track on that spot--if they win out they are guaranteed a spot while the Redskin need help, but they also have to win out to even have a chance.
When the Vikings have the ball: Last week reminded everyone that as good as he may have played lately, quarterback Tavaris Jackson is best off when the Vikings don't ask him to do too much. Last week the Bears managed to slow down Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, which forced the Vikings to rely on Jackson. It didn't go well, as Jackson threw three interceptions, but the Vikings defense and some late runs from Peterson bailed Minnesota out.
When the Redskins have the ball: Todd Collins will have to start again for the Redskins in place of starter Jason Campbell. Collins played well two weeks ago, but not nearly as well last week. Collins will probably have to win this game for the Redskins, as the Vikings simply annihilate running games thanks to the outstanding Pro Bowl tandem of Pat and Kevin Williams. The Vikings secondary can be picked on, but there will be a lot of questions of whether Collins is good enough to take advantage of the opportunities.
The Edge: It would have been hard to believe that these two teams would be playing for a playoff spot a month ago, but the winner of this game will be in pretty good shape. Minnesota is a flawed team, but they're a ton healthier than the Redskins, and Adrian Peterson is a difference maker.
