What started as a glimmer in a busboy's eye last week is about to happen, according to a few reports. That's right: Chris Webber and the Golden State Warriors, reunited and it feels so... good. If you remember 1994, you know why this is all sorts of weird. The jpeg standing atop Golden State of Mind tells the story. It's not all chrysanthemums and rice in Oakland, though; Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle offers no fewer than seven reasons this could end in disaster. Here's one:
Everything about Webber says "yesterday." Really bleak yesterdays, in the Warriors' case. He hasn't played a minute this season, and even if he arrives in reasonable shape, he can't run with the likes of Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins and [Baron] Davis, no matter what the players say. He can't do it, OK? Can't.Unless Webber's been in one of Gil's altitude tents the past six months, you can't argue this point: When Webber's in the game, the Warriors' fast break will either be a four-man ploy or there will be no Warriors fast break. But get used to it; it looks like the signing is about to be chiseled into the NBA transactions page.
UPDATE: Alright, this whole thing is already completely worth it.
