Despite all the
chatter from
Mike Dunleavy and all of
Donald Sterling's hemming and hawing and what-not, the Los Angeles Clippers finally
caved and waived Sam Cassell, releasing him from their basketball team and his version of purgatory, giving him the freedom to sign with any other NBA team, once he clears waivers.
'After weighing all of the options and after conversations with Sam we believe this is the best solution for this team,' stated Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor. 'We know and appreciate the many contributions Sam made during the last three years, and we wish him nothing but the best.'
Purportedly, the buyout will have Cassell receive approximately half of the $1.7 million he was due for the rest of the season,
according to the
L.A. Times, meaning that the team and Sam-I-Am, after bickering back and forth about how much he would make, finally found a compromise that would
let Cassell have his cake and eat it too make both sides happy. Oh yeah, and Cassell is expected to land in Boston, although Denver and Dallas remain theoretical suitors.
