David Garrard Signs Six-Year, $60 Million Extension With Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback David Garrard have reached an agreement on a contract extension that firmly establishes him as the long-term answer at quarterback in Jacksonville.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports reports:
the deal includes $9 million in signing bonus money and $20 million in guaranteed money. That is under the $28.5 million in guaranteed money that the Dallas Cowboys gave to Tony Romo last year on his contract extension. There had been talk that Garrard wanted Romo money.

That seems like a pretty good deal for the Jaguars: I wrote last month that Garrard was likely to get between $20 million and $30 million guaranteed, and the Jaguars got the deal done while staying on the low end of that range.

Garrard would have become a free agent after the 2008 season if he had not signed the extension. Instead, he'll stay with the Jaguars into his mid-30s.
