For Laker fans that still might have been holding out hope that you'd see Andrew Bynum back on the court sometime during this post-season, well, you can stop hoping. While the Lakers will be preparing for Game 1 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday, Bynum is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on that injured left knee. After the surgery, the team is expected to announce a timetable for Bynum's return, but really, why bother?

Bynum has been out four months with an injury that was initially only scheduled to keep him sidelined for eight weeks. Either the injury was more severe than we first thought, or the Lakers' medical staff has no idea when Bynum will be able to return to action. I'm guessing it's the latter. Either way, setting timetables for a return is completely pointless. Let's just agree that we won't be seeing Bynum until (hopefully) sometime during the 2008-09 season. shall we?
