Notes from a trip to the NBA Playoffs.P.J. Brown, who came out of semi-retirement in the middle of the year to join the Celtics, has waited 16 long years to reach the NBA Finals. So how was he celebrating in the locker room after last night's win?
By sitting in front of his locker wearing an "Eastern Conference Champion" t-shirt and hat while munching on a pita sandwich. Gives a new meaning to being hungry for a win, I suppose. Between bites, he answered a few questions.
Is this what you had in mind when you got here midseason?
PJ: "You have it in mind, but until it actually happens, you don't really believe it. It's unbelievable, man, to be here, to be in this moment. I've always wanted to put this cap on and wear this t-shirt, man, so I'm excited, I'm jacked up. ... Three months ago I was at home, tossing and turning, wondering should I do this? And now it's all come true, man, and I'm grateful, I'm appreciative and I'm looking forward to the opportunity coming up next week."
This is old school, Celtics taking on the Pistons, and now Celtics taking on the Lakers.
PJ: "I'm an old school guy. I'm an 80's guy, so I'm very familiar with the rivalry. I remember it was like yesterday -- I remember when Kevin McHale put the rasslin' move on Kurt Rambis, when Magic hit that junior sky hook, I remember that just like it was yesterday. It's just unbelievable to be a part of this."
Is it more special for you to win here given how your season ended last year [being eliminated by the Pistons as a member of the Bulls]?
PJ: [Laughing] "Well, it was a little payback for me, because these guys sent me home early last year and they beat us in Chicago on our home floor, so to give them a little payback feels okay. I'm just overall glad we got it done. And to beat a great team like the Pistons, man, that's one of the best teams that's been around here in the last six, seven, eight years, and to come and do it on their home floor, it was huge, very huge."
