Crystal Ballin' takes a team-by-team look at what should, could, and probably will happen in the June 26th NBA Draft.There are only a few NBA teams you can unequivocally count out for the 2008-09 season at this point. Memphis is no lower than #2 (what up, Seattle!) on that list.
Picks: #5, #28
Needs: Bigs, bigs, and bigs. Another two-guard to replace Juan Carlos Navarro and (eventually) Mike Miller would be nice, too.
Best case scenario: In Chris Wallace's dreams, Memphis works out a deal to land Michael Beasley ... without giving up Mike Conley. Conley, Rudy Gay and Beasley would look the fetus of awesome. Landing a magician like Chris Douglas-Roberts at #28 could be heaven.
More likely scenario: Of any of the top-o'-the-draft blockbusters being whispered, the above scenario actually looks most promising. But if it doesn't happen, Kevin Love and Brook Lopez might be the best available bigs. It'd be odd if Wallace passed up both to bolster a fairly decent backcourt. At #28, since the Grizz ain't winning 40 games barring miraculous occurrences, Memphis might instead look to take a high-potential international (Serge Ibaka, Nathan Jawai) or trade down for a few seconds.
Please don't take: A point guard. Javaris Crittenton already feels unloved.
Trade possibilities: Lots of rumors tying Memphis to Miami's #2 pick have been floated, with one of the Grizz point guards and Miller heading to Florida with the #5 pick for Beasley and Mark Blount's cadaver. In a draft looking rife for a shake-up, Memphis could certainly be a key domino.
