The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars are for sale, and that owner Wayne Weaver has negotiated with billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos to sell the team.Metropoulos, who sold Pinnacle Foods last year for more than $2 billion, denied it:
"I must tell you I haven't had any such discussions," he said. "I wouldn't know how to give you any credibility to that because I don't know anything about it."But the Daily News reported that "several credible league sources" said Metropoulos is lying. This sale does not appear to be as close as the potential sale of the Steelers, but it's worth keeping an eye on.
One thing to keep in mind: Because of the size of the market and the constant problems selling out the stadium, the Jaguars aren't worth a lot (relatively) in Jacksonville -- but if an owner believes he can move the team to Los Angeles, all of a sudden they're a gold mine.
