Last year, cheers went up around the college football world celebrating the demise of rule 3-2-5e, an NCAA effort implemented in 2006 to speed up the game of college football. While a number of changes were made in the 2007 offseason, remnants of the rule existed...until yesterday at least. Under new NCAA rules, there will be two significant changes for 2008:
- The clock will start at the snap after a change of possession, rather than when the referee signals the ball to be in play; and,
- On kickoffs, the clock will only start once the ball hits the field of play.
