Thanks to Kenny Perry's decision to skip the British Open for the prestige of the Greater Milwaukee Open, young Anthony Kim took full advantage and snagged "hottest golfer on tour" title from the 47-year-old Perry.
Kim, 23, finished in a t-7 at Royal Birkdale and after a sweltering 7-under 64 on Saturday at the Canadian Open he's tie for the top spot with tour rookie Chez Reavie.
Because of rain delays yesterday, Reavie finished just 16 holes, which means he will need an extra pot of coffee this morning as he finishes up 17 and 18 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
As long as Reavie doesn't blow up today as he concludes his third round, he will be paired with Kim, who will have a Tiger Woods-like advantage over Reavie off the tee. Trust me when I tell you that nothing makes a round longer than looking at a guy 20 yards ahead of you on every single hole.
Kim is ranked fifth in the FedEx Cup point list and a win here would be his third of the season and have him as the early favorite to win everything the rest of the season, maybe even an LPGA event. Reavie is ranked 128th in the FedEx Cup list and a high finish will all but secure his PGA Tour card next season."Anthony and I play different games," Reavie said. "He hits the ball really long and I don't. So I need to stick to my game plan, hit fairways and greens and give myself opportunities to make birdies."
I'm almost positive there is some biblical story about two characters this different with the lesser one prevailing, but their names just aren't coming to me.
