Joe Torre Wins, Sort Of: Manny to Cut His Dreadlocks

Not so long ago, Joe Torre told Manny Ramirez that the slugger was going to have to cut his patented dreadlocks if he wanted to be True Dodger. This naturally stems from Torre's time in New York, when the True Yankees were clean cut, presentable, and looked like the type of baseball players you'd want your she-male, muscular type to be photographed on the front page of the New York Post with. The Yankees are wholesome like that.

Anyway, after Torre's conversation with Manny, L.A. Times columnist T.J. Simers bet Torre that Manny wouldn't cut his dreads within a week. Simers won that battle -- Manny's dreads are still unshaven. But they will be, and so Torre wins the war: Manny will cut his hair for charity and ditch the dreads once and for all.

It's genuinely surprising that Manny didn't make more of an issue out of this. After all, internet fame can go to one's head pretty quickly, and before you know it you're trolling Second Life and griefing innocent bystanders. And you refuse to get a haircut. But not Manny: It's good to see the guy can stay grounded in the midst of his newfound fame.

Also, according to Simers, Brad Penny got a mohawk. Not sure how that suits Torre's tastes, but, you know, take it for what it's worth.
