Team USA defeated Canada 2-1 in 120 minutes of rainy soccer in Shanghai today, moving on to an accustomed spot in the semifinals and making their opening game loss a distant memory.

Angela Hucles scored in the 12th minute to put the U.S. on top in a game that would be delayed by lightning, but Canada's Christine Sinclair scored in the 30th to tie the game 1-1. That's where it stood for more than an hour of play, but Natasha Kai came off the bench and scored in the 100th minute to give the American women their winning margin.

Next the Americans will take on the winner of China vs. Japan, which is just underway a little after 10 a.m. Eastern time. Brazil has also advanced and will next play the Sweden vs. Germany winner. With one more victory the Americans will win a medal; with two more they'll win a gold.
