No one in the world can swim like Michael Phelps, who won his seventh gold medal of these Olympics last night and will go for his eighth tonight. But can anyone eat like Phelps, who wolfs down 12,000 calories a day? Mark Segraves, a reporter from WTOP television, tried to find out:

Yeah, that didn't go well. In theory, getting to eat virtually unlimited quantities of food would sound like one of the great things about being Michael Phelps. In practice, I'm sure there are days when he gets sick of eating and wishes he didn't need 12,000 calories a day to replenish what he burns. Eating 12,000 calories a day isn't as hard as winning eight gold medals, but it isn't easy.
