Ricky Williams really has re-invented himself. After quitting on his teammates right before the 2004 season, Williams has made his way back into the good graces of not only his co-workers, but also his bosses.

The Dolphins rewarded the 31-year-old former fifth-overall pick with a one-year extension, which I think says more about his re-emergence than it does about Ronnie Brown's ability to stay healthy.

With age comes wisdom, and Williams, who left college after his junior year after four years but didn't graduate, is also taking night classes.
"I'm at a point in my career where I'm looking for some kind of stability," said Williams, 31. "I'm taking classes now, so it will be easier to help with the transition to my life after football, so I'm happy to be here another year."
But it gets better. Williams is currently taking pre-algebra, partly because it's a prerequisite for his pre-med degree. Seriously.
Q: Why pre-algebra?

Williams: "I've always been good with numbers," he said. "I want to get my degree pre-med, so you have to take calculus and a bunch of math classes. I've been out of school 10 years and so just trying to start over and get back in the swing of things."
When asked what type of medicine he was interested in, Williams replied, "osteopathy," which I'm pretty sure is the study of exotic plants. In any event, Williams is finishing his coursework at Nova Southern University . Actual classes, too, none of that online stuff. Unintentional hilarity ensues:
Q: Have you been recognized?

Williams: "I've only been to one class ...Teacher was looking at me, he's like, 'You look like you play football, and I was like, 'Yeah, I play football.' ... And he was like, 'For who?' And I was like, 'For the Dolphins.' He was like, 'What's your name?' I said, 'Williams.'"

"He said, 'OK ... So how's Chad Pennington doing?' ... I was like, 'Fine,' and that was the end of it."
I applaud Williams for finishing up his degree and re-committing himself to football. His storytelling skills could use a little work, however ... and yet, it was all mesmerizingly riveting. Weird.
