Steve Kern, the Jets' season ticket holder who organized the PSL rally before the Jets/Giants preseason game a few weeks ago, and his minions haven't given up the fight against PSLs. They're planning another rally before this Thursday's Giants/Redskins season opener. But a lot of other people seem to have moved on, especially with the Jets' seemingly budging and only charging PSLs for seats in the lower bowl. The announcement was met with positivity, especially in comparison to the Giants' plan, which charged PSLs for all seats in the stadium.
But, as is typical, we've been fooled by the shiny surface and ignored the seedy underbelly of the Jets' plan, because you know the Jets simply didn't sacrifice profit for the benefit of the fans in the upper bowl. No, they have to make that money up somewhere. Namely, the lower bowl.
I spoke with Kern, who informed me that his seats in Section 137 will carry a PSL charge of $10,000. The same seats for Giants games only run $5,000. The individual game charges are $140 apiece, compared to $120 for the Giants.
So while the Jets enjoyed all of the good publicity immediately, as Jet and Giant fans compare invoices in the coming weeks, all of those positive vibes at Jets games will probably be divided by a Mason-Dixon line that runs along the new stadium's concourse.
