Matt Ryan may have an outstanding career, or he may be a bust, but we do know now that the first minute of his career was perfect. On the first pass of his career, less than a minute into the game against the Lions, Ryan dropped back, looked around and found Michael Jenkins for a 62-yard touchdown. It was a perfect pass as Ryan hit Jenkins in stride as he split a cover two defense, throwing it behind the corner but in front of the safety, who blew his angle of pursuit.
To put it in perspective, Joey Harrington had an entire game last year where he started for the Falcons and threw for only 34 yards. Obviously this doesn't mean that Ryan won't have plenty of hiccups along the way, but on Week One of the new season, it's hard to imagine a better way to flush down the toilet all the crappy memories of 2007.
The only thing that could have made it better is if Bobby Petrino had lost yesterday.
