
As she makes her first true quest to earn a full-time LPGA tour card, Michelle Wie fans can rejoice. It looks like she has once again found her game.
With 118 of the 164 golfers in the clubhouse at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., Wie is currently in seventh place after a first round two-under 70. Wie is four shots back of leader Sun-Ju Ahn, who posted a six-under 66 and is leading the field by three.
The 164 golfers competing in the sectional qualifying will be cut down to 70 players after the second found of the 72-hole event and after the fourth round is complete, the top-30 and ties will move on to the final round of qualifying at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Eleven of the 118 players that have completed their round failed to break 80, while two have withdrew from the tournament.
