If Tony Romo Was Dedicated to the Cowboys He Would Be More Like Trevor Wikre

Yesterday, news came out that Dallas quarterback Tony Romo could be sidelined for a month -- or longer -- with a broken pinky finger suffered in the team's loss at Arizona this past Sunday.

It's an injury that isn't all that different from Trevor Wikre, only he was willing to take one for the team to ensure he would be back on the field as soon as humanly possible. Basically, Trevor Wikre laughs at Tony Romo and his "four-to-six weeks."

Who is Trevor Wikre, you ask? Well, he's an offensive guard at Division II Mesa State, and he decided that rather than miss several months with a surgically-repaired little finger, it would be a better idea to just cut the stupid thing off and suit up a week later. Now that's dedication. Or insanity. From Bill Johnson of the Rocky Mountain News:
It was then that Trevor Wikre, 21 years old, uttered the words I know I never would, the words that put both his doctors and his parents into a spin: "We can cut it off!" The doctors, he recalled, "were not really up for that. Look, doctors want to save everything they can. And when they told me I could be out six months or longer, that there could be complications later on, it was a no-brainer for me."
Your move, Romo.

Obviously Romo's situation, as an NFL quarterback, is slightly different from an offensive lineman at the Division II level. Romo actually needs all of his fingers to do his job, so he's not really in a position to, you know, hack one off. Plus, I think Wikre's break was a little more severe, seeing as how his finger was, essentially, broken in half.

Still, you have to admire the passion of a 21-year old that was willing to lose an appendage to continue suiting up for a 5-2 Division II squad. Or you have to question if he's mentally stable.

On the other hand, I don't think there's a more intimidating sight for a defensive lineman than lining up across from a guard that just sawed off a part of his body to get back in the game. I mean, you know that guy's tough. And crazy. Very crazy.
