No, not Cris Collinsworth, the best NFL commentator. Rather, it was BYU forward Chris Collinsworth who was stabbed while on a mission in Australia. Not that you don't feel bad for Chris, nor is the story less significant. Collinsworth, a 6-foot-9 forward from Provo High who played for the Cougars last season before departing on his two-year mission, received one deep stab wound to his back and various other lacerations and bruises and was held in the hospital overnight before being released to the mission home Wednesday morning. The wound was so deep that stitches wouldn't be enough; the wound had to be glued back together. Collinsworth and David Ferguson were assaulted by three cowards. A passing motorist was able to help chase the assailants off.
This is a pretty jarring story. You figured that Collinsworth probably felt like he hit the jackpot when his two-year missionary took him to Sydney, Australia. But you might be surprised to learn that Sydney has its share of rough areas, too.
Collinsworth, according to his father, will still complete his mission and convalesce in Australia. You have to admire the dedication and faith of the young man. Hopefully he can fully recover and return to the BYU basketball squad when his mission is over.
