The Ottawa Senators and team captain Daniel Alfredsson came to an agreement on a 4-year contract extension today that will keep him in Ottawa for the remainder of his career. The deal is worth $21.6 million, as reported by TSN."Our ability to reach a new contract so early in the season speaks to the high level of commitment and respect that exists between Daniel and our hockey club," said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk in a statement. "With today's signing, I deliver on a promise to our fans and to Daniel that I would make him a Senator for life. Daniel's leadership and on-ice skills make him one of the best all round players in the National Hockey League and I'm delighted that he will remain an integral part of the Senators organization."The deal includes a no-movement clause, pretty much assuring that the 35-year old forward will stay in Ottawa for the duration of his playing career. There's also a rumor floating around that the deal includes a front office job when he eventually hangs up his skates for good.
He has nine points in eight games this year, and scored 40 goals in just 70 games a year ago.
