Jay Cutler Throws Two Picks in First Three Possessions, Broncos Trail Dolphins

During the Sunday pregame shows, there was some discussion about the state of the Broncos, an explosive offensive team that refuses to make tackles on defense. The results lead to high-scoring affairs, or, as was the case two Monday Night's ago, a national television whuppin' (thanks, Matt Cassel!).

Well, if the first 10 minutes of today's get-together with the Dolphins is any indication, the proverbial wheels have fallen off the offense, too. On the third play of the game, Jay Cutler, from his own 20-yard line, was intercepted by safety Will Allen. Four plays later, Miami was up 3-0. The Broncos went four-and-out on the next drive, and 10 plays after that, the Dolphins led 6-0.

On Denver's third possession, Cutler again completed a pass to a Miami defender -- Will Allen ... again -- and this time he took it 31 yards for the touchdown.

To recap: Cutler looks a lot like Patrick Ramsey after he went on injured reserve. It's certainly plausible that Cutler is still bothered by an injury to his throwing hand suffered against New England, but if that's true, you'd think head coach Mike Shanahan would've called a few more running plays early in the game.

Luckily, rookie wideout Eddie Royal took the ensuing kickoff 95 yards, and the Broncos finally got on the board. Via a Cutler pass, of course. So with almost four minutes to go in the opening quarter, the Dolphins lead 13-7, despite an abysmal start by Denver's offense.

On the upside, no matter what happens, the Broncos will still lead the AFC West by the end of the day. So there's that.
